Winter 2010

Winter is such a wonderful season here in the mountains…the stars sparkle with amazing brilliance, pure white snow blankets everything, stately pines provide a welcome relief of green, and underneath the frozen landscape await the glories of spring. We feel so fortunate to view this gorgeous spectacle that we just had to celebrate with a new quilt! We call it “McCall Mountain Majesty” and are excited to share it with you as our 2010 Row of the Month!

What you see are the January through May rows of this spectacular landscape quilt inspired by our home in the mountains of central Idaho. If you appreciate an adventure, join us in making this queen-sized quilt month by month. You can take our class or participate via mail with a pre-cut kit each month. The quilt will have 12 rows (the remaining 7 will be designed as we go…hence the adventure is in not knowing what the scenery will reveal!) and measure approximately 72 x 90” before borders.

More details: the rows vary in height. There is a lot of piecing and a little appliqué. You may choose your method of appliqué—we will be using a fusible on ours. The kit fabrics will vary from our photo, and will vary from kit to kit—that way, if you and your friend each make one, they won’t be carbon copies! Confident beginners will be able to complete the design using our patterns included each month. Kits are pre-cut for piecing with appliqué fabrics as yardage so you can use your method of choice. The mail order price per month is $16, plus $2 postage and applicable tax. A border kit will be available at the end of the year. If you will be joining us for the class in the shop, please see the class description found below for pricing.

We would love to have you along for the “McCall Mountain Majesty” quilting adventure. Please let us know if we can count you in!

Speaking of designing new quilts, there are several other brand new Granny’s Attic original patterns coming this winter…take a look at the Winter Class Schedule to learn about them. We have a great selection of classes now through March for your enjoyment.

Mark your calendar for the Boise Basin Quilters meeting on Thursday, January 21…we will be presenting a program that evening titled “Cutting Courageously.” It’s all about making the most of your rotary cutting tools, ergonomics of cutting, and perfecting mitered borders. We’d love to see you in the audience!

And be sure to mark off April 15-24 for the Treasure Shop Hop! It promises to be a great deal of fun once again.

Happy Quilting—Lori and Carol Anne
